The easy ice coffee making method you want to know

With the extraordinarily hot summer, it is understandable when one starts to fancy an iced coffee instead of a regular one. That is what happened to me this year. Unfortunately, most of the cafeterias were too slow to add this item to their menu and those who did asked an enormous price. Naturally, I tried to find a way for making ice coffee at home, but how do you do that without any special equipment? I didn´t have a coffee machine or even milk foamer.

Making ice coffee is much easier than you would guess! I normally don´t share recipes on my blog but this is more like a life hack, I guess.

So, what do you need:

  1. Good ground coffee (I use Lavazza)
  2. Stovetop espresso pot (the one that Italians use)
  3. 100 ml Latte or Cappucino milk. This is a MUST HAVE. With regular milk, coffee creamer or plant-based milk substitute you will never get that perfect foam.
  4. Ice
  5. A regular jar with a tight lid (this replaces the milk foamer)
  6. A glass
  7. Optional: syrup or runny honey

What you need to do:
  1. Make a cup of coffee in the stovetop espresso pot. If you don´t have one, make one extra-strong espresso, with the method that you normally use. Don´t worry that it is too strong, the ice will dilute it down to the level you would want.
  2. While coffee is boiling, pour the milk into the jar, add two ice cubes, close with the lid and shake vigorously until milk is foamed.
  3. Transfer the foamed milk into the glass (when milk is poured before coffee, the result is better).
  4. Pour the hot coffee into the jar and add two ice cubes. Shake again. Shaking the coffee with ice will ensure rapid cooling.
  5. Pour the coffee into the glass.
  6. You can add syrup or honey as a topping. I like coffee honey the most. But I hate when people add ingredients into the recipes which are only found from one coffee plantation from Malaysia. So I tell you to use any syrup you like.
  7. Voila, your coffee is ready to enjoy!

You have maybe also heard about the cold-brew method. As you might have noticed, I did not use it in this recipe. There are numerous reasons why I prefer cooling a hot coffee with ice over cold-brew:
  1. Firstly, I want my coffee as soon as possible, and can´t wait a day before it is ready
  2. Cold-brew demands much more coffee powder, which is not good for your wallet
  3. All flavour ingredients do not extract with cold water and your coffee becomes bland.
